Christchurch College of English (CCEL) is an independent language school based on the University of Canterbury campus in Christchurch, New Zealand. Academic and Student Experience Manager Gareth Williams has been with CCEL for 24 years and is responsible for academic programmes and student welfare. He also reviews and selects the language tests offered by CCEL, and recently added LanguageCert to the school’s suite of exams.

Gareth appreciates the way LanguageCert organises its exams. “LanguageCert segments its tests by ability level, rather than using one test to cover the full ability range. This to us seems fairer. The student will be at the right CEFR level for the test, and the test also appears more ‘doable’ and less daunting to the student”.  

 

Candidates’ results and feedback to LanguageCert exams have both been positive. Students perceive our exams as being more achievable, although Gareth likes to point out that “it’s just as challenging as comparative tests but appears to be more manageable because it is pitched at their level”.
