Software Programme Manager Siddhartha Srivastava describes how the B1 SELT with LanguageCert exam helped him achieve success
LanguageCert exams, recognised by Ofqual, have been enabling high-skill professionals to fulfil their potential and showcase their skills to perspective employers, securing a career in the UK. One such success story is that of software programme manager Siddhartha Srivastava, who chose to take the LanguageCert Secure English Language Test, known as SELT, as part of the UK’s Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) application process.
Sid, who lives in Wembley with his wife and 15-year-old daughter, took the B1 test in April 2021 and believes it is one of the most important steps that anyone who wants to live, study or work in the United Kingdom can take.
Originally from central India, Sid’s first language is Hindi. However, Sid completed his whole education in English, including a master’s degree in computer applications.
Highly skilled IT professionals with proficient English are in demand in Britain, so gaining a formal certification as part of the ILR process was important to Sid both for his career opportunities and the quality of life he aspires to for his family.
Sid was aware that there are a few SELT providers, but there were several things that led him to choose LanguageCert SELT exams:
“I found the LanguageCert website was well structured and gave me everything I needed to make an informed decision. All the details I needed were easy to find and well explained,” says Sid.
“LanguageCert also has test centres in convenient locations, which meant getting to the test was straightforward for me,” adds Sid. “I also liked the fact that they offer a range of testing times so it’s easy to book a test that fits in with a busy schedule.”
To help prepare, Sid did extra research by watching LanguageCert YouTube videos that demonstrated how the different elements of reading, writing, and listening were tested. This, coupled with the information available from LanguageCert, gave him the confidence he needed to go into the test. Overall, he found the process simple and straightforward.
Sid passed the test, which was formally confirmed within days. “Getting a result so quickly gave me peace of mind because it’s such a major part of the ILR process. Passing meant I could get on with the rest of the application with the knowledge that the language requirement was met.”
