Recognition expands English proficiency options for international applicants and marks another milestone for LCA in U.S. higher education.
Northeastern University’s College of Professional Studies (CPS) now accepts LANGUAGECERT Academic (LCA) as proof of English language proficiency for international students applying for graduate programs, bachelor’s degree completion programs, and global pathways. Following its institutional review, CPS has added LCA to its approved English proficiency options, expanding the ways prospective international students can meet English language requirements when applying to eligible programs.
The decision represents an important milestone for LCA in the United States and reflects growing institutional interest in secure, academically focused English assessments that support both admissions confidence and international student access.
Expanding choice for international students
For student applying to Northeastern University from around the world, the addition of LCA provides another way to demonstrate the English language skills required for study. The test assesses Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking through academic content and scenarios, and is available both at approved test centers and online with live remote proctoring, giving applicants greater flexibility based on their location and circumstances.
Supporting CPS admissions requirements
Northeastern University College of Professional Studies serves a diverse population of learners across graduate, bachelor’s completion and doctoral programs, including international students pursuing academic and professional advancement in the United States. By adding LCA to its English proficiency policy, CPS is broadening the range of recognized assessments available to applicants while maintaining institutionally defined admissions standards.
Under the College’s current English language requirements, a minimum LCA score of 75 is required for graduate and bachelor’s completion programs, and a minimum score of 90 for doctoral programs.
The recognition follows an independent evaluation by the College and demonstrates how U.S. institutions are continuing to review their English language assessment policies in response to changing student needs and an evolving international admissions environment.
Supporting informed admissions decisions
LCA was developed around the language demands of higher education. Scores are reported overall and for each of the four language skills on the LANGUAGECERT Global Scale from 0–100 and are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The assessment is supported by an ongoing program of research and validation, including a large-scale concordance study involving more than 1,000 test takers who completed both LCA and IELTS Academic, providing institutions with additional evidence to support informed score-setting and admissions policies.
