LANGUAGECERT Sponsors Ireland’s Annual Report on English Language Training 2024
LanguageCert, 19 June 2025
We are delighted to share that LANGUAGECERT proudly sponsored the Annual Report on English Language Training in Ireland 2024, developed by English Education Ireland (EEI) in partnership with leading international research firm BONARD. The launch event took place in Dublin on 30 May and brought together representatives from EEI member schools, QQI, Education Ireland, BONARD, and LANGUAGECERT.
This landmark report provides a comprehensive analysis of Ireland’s English language education sector, capturing key trends, performance metrics, and future opportunities. With data submitted by 96% of EEI member schools, it reflects the collective voice of the sector and demonstrates the value of evidence-based insights for decision-making and strategic growth.
Findings from the 2024 report reveal that Ireland welcomed 128,761 international students from 125 countries, contributing €792 million to the national economy. These figures underscore the vital role English language training plays within Ireland’s education landscape and its broader economic impact.
CEO of English Education Ireland, Lorcan O’Connor Lloyd, noted:
“This report demonstrates the ongoing strength and value of the English Language Education sector in Ireland. The €792 million figure reflects only the direct economic impact—tuition, accommodation, and immediate spend—but the true value is far greater. International students boost local economies, support tourism and public transport, and enrich Ireland’s social and cultural life.”
Representing LANGUAGECERT at the event, Andy Harrison, Business Development & Education Partnerships Manager, shared how our growing range of PeopleCert certifications, such as PRINCE2 and ITIL, can help language schools diversify their course offerings. He highlighted the potential for LANGUAGECERT to partner with institutions responding to student demand for English+ programmes, particularly those integrating AI, IT, and business skills. This point resonated strongly with panellists, including a representative from Education Ireland, who spoke about the growing need for schools to go beyond general English instruction.
Andy also addressed the upcoming International Education Mark (IEM), overseen by QQI. He outlined how LANGUAGECERT’s CEFR-aligned English language tests support schools and universities in maintaining compliance, by offering trusted proof of language proficiency, reinforcing ethical recruitment practices, and supporting student success.
“LANGUAGECERT is proud to support English Education Ireland and its network of quality-accredited language schools through the sponsorship of this important and impactful report. Bonard has provided a comprehensive analysis of the English Language Education (ELE) sector in Ireland and valuable insights into the sector's economic contribution. We hope the report will support data-driven decision-making and initiatives that will benefit language schools and international students studying English in Ireland.” Lucy Horsefield, United Kingdom & Ireland Director at LANGUAGECERT
